CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA / RankWire.AI / – Apple has introduced the iPhone Duo, its first foldable iPhone, with sales scheduled to begin October 23. The new model opens to a 7.6-inch inner display and carries a 5.4-inch outer screen. Apple says the inner panel is its largest iPhone display to date. Both screens use the same aspect ratio and support ProMotion, Always On functionality and 3,000 nits of peak outdoor brightness. The device starts at $1,999 in the United States.

The iPhone Duo uses a book-style folding design built around a precision hinge with more than 100 components. Apple constructed the enclosure from grade 5 titanium and added Ceramic Shield protection to the exterior surfaces. The company gives the phone an IP68 rating for splash, water and dust resistance. A nano-texture finish on the inner display reduces glare and helps limit the visibility of the crease. Touch ID sits in the side button for authentication in either configuration.
Apple equips the iPhone Duo with two 48-megapixel rear cameras covering main and ultra-wide photography. The main camera also provides an optical-quality 2x telephoto option. Users can preview rear-camera selfies on the outer display or show subjects a live preview while taking photographs. An under-display FaceTime camera keeps the inner screen clear when the camera is not in use. Apple CEO John Ternus introduced the device as part of the company’s September product announcements.
Foldable design combines dual displays with A20 Pro performance
The iPhone Duo runs on Apple’s A20 Pro processor, which also powers the iPhone 18 Pro models. The chip includes a six-core CPU, seven-core GPU and dual 16-core Neural Engine. Apple pairs it with a custom vapor chamber to manage heat during intensive workloads. The company also uses two batteries, with one positioned on each side of the folding body. Apple rates the phone for up to 24 hours of mixed use across both displays.
Battery estimates vary according to which display owners use. Apple lists up to 31 hours of video playback on the inner screen and 44 hours on the outer screen. Wired charging can bring the battery to 50% in about 20 minutes under Apple’s stated testing conditions. Compatible MagSafe or Qi2 charging can reach 50% in about 30 minutes. The phone also includes Apple’s N1 wireless chip, C2 cellular modem and an eSIM-only design worldwide.
Pricing, availability and iOS 27 rollout
Apple designed iOS 27 to adapt as users open, close, rotate or reposition the iPhone Duo. Split View allows two applications to run side by side on an iPhone for the first time. Users can also open two windows from the same application and save app pairs for later use. The interface moves several controls to the side of the larger display to preserve vertical space. Apple says support for Apple Pencil with USB-C will arrive later in 2026.
The iPhone Duo will come in star white and night sky with 256GB, 512GB, 1TB or 2TB of storage. U.S. pricing starts at $1,999 for the 256GB model. Apple will open preorders on October 16 in more than 70 countries and regions, including the UAE, United States, China, India and Japan. Retail availability starts October 23, followed by 28 additional markets on October 30. The device will ship with iOS 27.1, while Siri AI begins its beta rollout with iOS 27 on September 14.
